Led Zeppelin Broke Up 28 Years Ago Today (December 4th 1980)

Posted by jhochstat on December 4, 2008

On September 25th, 1980, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham passed away at the way too young age of 32 when he accidentally asphyxiated in his sleep after a prolonged drinking session during rehearsals which ended at Jimmy Page’s Old Mill House, Windsor property. (via Billboard, October 4, 1980)

Widely acclaimed as the greatest rock drummer ever, Bonham’s unique sound would have been difficult to replace and the remaining members, having met at London’s Savoy Hotel to discuss future plans, eventually announced the band’s dissolution and the cancellation of a US tour, on December 4, 1980.

Official Swan Song press release:

“We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend, and the deep sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were.”

One more time…..No.

Posted by T Rex on September 29, 2008

With the constant rumors swirling around a Led Zeppelin 2009 tour Robert Plant put out a statement on his Web site, Plant says he “has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years.”

“It’s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward,” he said.

“I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects,” he added.

See you in 2011.

Slash Speaks To Sky News about possible G’n’R reunion

Blabbermouth.net tipped us off about a video interview that Slash did with Sky News (uk) reporter Matt Smith. Slash speaks about his life of sobriety, his new range of guitars — and about the odds of GUNS N’ ROSES getting back together.

In the same interview, Slash also refuted comments made by bassist Duff McKagan that VELVET REVOLVER would open for LED ZEPPELIN on a rumored world tour. Slash said, “There’s been a huge rumor going around about us opening for them and I think that was something that was taken out of context. I think as far as ZEPPELIN doing a tour, that remains to be seen.”

So to recap the G’n’R news this week:

Slash talks about a possible G’n’R reunion.

Stone Temple Pilots will tour this summer with Scott Weiland out front. Where does that leave Velvet Revolver?

Duff’s comments about Velvet Revolver being offered the opening slot on the Led Zeppelin tour if/when it happens were taken “out of context”. How can “MY BAND WAS OFFERED THE OPENING SLOT FOR LED ZEPPELIN” be taken out of context?

Guns & Roses now has the same manager as Scott Weiland G’n’R Press Release / Statement from new G’n’R management

Blabbermouth.net also added this tidbit: It is interesting to note that up until recently, Azoff Music also managed VELVET REVOLVER, the band featuring Axl’s former GN’R bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Azoff is continuing to represent VR’s singer, Scott Weiland, an Azoff spokesperson confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

Does anyone else see this all turning into a reality tv show or is it just me?

My band is opening for Led Zeppelin, or is it?

Posted by jhochstat on March 20, 2008

According to a report on the New Music Express website yesterday, Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has claimed that his band have bagged tour support slots on a supposed future tour with Led Zeppelin.

    &      ????

The article also states that Ian Astbury of the Cult has claimed that they were tapped for the slot as well.

 &  ???

I will believe the hype of a Led Zeppelin tour when the shows for MSG are announced, maybe by then Guns & Roses will be ready for an opening slot as well (Axl are you reading this?)

Really looking forward to the Robert Plant / Alison Krauss tour this summer (Madison Square Garden June 10th & 11th).  Raising Sand is an album that keeps on growing on me after each listen….

What do you you think about a Led Zeppelin tour?  Who do you think should get the opening slot?

Robert Plant Says No

Posted by T Rex on March 3, 2008

The Sunday Mirror newspaper quotes an anonymous source as saying that the band have turned down a £100 million offer to tour.

How often do you see these legendary bands turn down huge pay days to instead focus on making new music? As much as I would have loved to see them I was really happy to read that no amount of money can convince Robert Plant to join the reunion craze and go out on tour with Led Zeppelin. He wants to leave the Zeppelin legacy as is with the O2 show proving to the world the band still rocks. He is more focused on making new music and his summer tour with Alison Krauss. Now that is a rock star……

Cash Cow

The Guardian is reporting that Seatwave, the company we tracked that resold Led Zeppelin tickets on their website, revealed that the average price for a ticket to the concert was £7,425 which comes out to $ 14,669.1876 making it the UK cash cow ticket of 2007.

In other expensive ticket news Ebay defends the “secondary ticket market” to Giwise.

Looks like the Bonnaroo rumors from a few weeks ago might prove themselves true. Robert Plant had said no….but sources say…”Now he’s had a change of heart and if it all goes well they are also talking about touring.”
