Last year, our beloved Beacon run was postponed due to your health issues. This upcoming year’s Beacon shows will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Allman Brothers Band. Through it all you somehow always manage to persevere and come out stronger in the end. I hope that 2008 doesn’t spell the retirement of the Allman Brothers Band, you guys are hitting on all cylinders with Warren & Derek as one of the most talented and powerful guitar duos in rock history on the same stage night after night.
Thanks for all of the great years of live shows, vinyl, 8 tracks, cassettes and cd’s that are in my collection. Please keep the music coming for years to come!

After this year’s postponement, then cancellation of the Beacon run, any news regarding the 40th anniversary of The Allman Brothers is welcome.
Matt Simpson of wnew.com staff reported this morning:
This week Billboard magazine will hold their annual Touring Conference at New York’s Roosevelt Hotel. Part industry conference, part awards show, the two day confab starts tomorrow and will culminate Thursday with the presentation of the Legend of Live award to Gregg Allman and his Allman Brothers Band. This week’s edition of Billboard has an article about the live legends, and buried deep at the end is a quote from Gregg that caught my attention. Asked what to expect from next year’s 40th anniversary tour and March run at the Beacon Theater, Gregg says:
I’d love to tell you what we have planned, but it’s just kick ass, that’s all I can tell you. We’re going to pitch a wang dang doodle all night long.
jroxx note: All I have to say to this is Hell Yeah!!! Bring back the Beacon Run!!!

The ABB website issued the following statement this morning:
The Allman Brothers Band announced today that they are postponing their annual run of 15 shows at New York City’s Beacon Theatre set for May 5-24, with rescheduled dates TBA. In addition, they have also cancelled their upcoming performances at the Wanee Festival that they host every year in Florida (set for April 11-12, Wanee will continue as planned despite the fact that the Allman Brothers Band will not be appearing). For the past six months, founding member Gregg Allman has been receiving scheduled treatments for Hepatitis C, a virus that, with these treatments, has become curable in recent years. The treatments so far have been successful and the virus has been eradicated from his system.
However, the recovery time from the side effects of the treatment are taking longer than originally projected. Since the Allman Brothers Band are known for exhilarating and exhausting concert performances they don’t want to give fans anything less than they have come to expect; so the band members made a group decision to delay the first round of dates. “I’m getting better but I’m still tired,” says Gregg. “I need to be at 110% to do the shows the way we do them. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the support and understanding my Brothers and our fans have given me.”
Update 1:45 PM
The MSG website issued the following statement this morning:
We’re sorry to inform you that the Allman Brothers Band performances scheduled for May 5- 24, 2008 at the Beacon Theatre have been postponed.
For the past six months, founding member Gregg Allman has been receiving scheduled treatments for Hepatitis C, a virus that, with these treatments, has become curable in recent years. The treatments so far have been successful and the virus has been eradicated from his system. The recovery time has taken longer than originally anticipated and it was a group decision to postpone the Beacon Theatre shows.
The unparalleled loyalty of Allman Brothers Band fans has been well documented in the music industry for over 39 years — the last 19 at The Beacon Theatre. The band is committed to giving 110% and wants to be sure that they are in top form before returning to The Beacon Theatre.
Live Nation and the Beacon Theatre are working to make sure that we find a solution to this road block and ensure that the music never stops. We are devoted to bring these amazing concerts to dedicated fans like you and thank you for your patience during this unforeseen and unfortunate delay.
Please hold onto your ticket until the rescheduled dates are announced. For further information, you may visit www.allmanbrothersband.com for a complete press release and updates.
Get well Gregg, we look forward to our Beacon shows sometime in the future!
