Microsoft has a live music series called MSN Music In Concert. It’s recorded webcasts of live shows of mostly mainstream pop artists in various sized venues. A few of interest are Crowded House, Kings of Leon, Gomez, Elton John, Nas, Chris Cornell , Velvet Revolver and Smashing Pumpkins.
Tonight I watched the premiere webcast of the Smashing Pumpkins show that was recorded on October 21, 2007 at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby Pa. Billy Corgan is awesome and is up there in the ranks of the elite guitarists. The production was great but you could only click on individual songs. The setlist they had was missing songs and it became clear MSN pieced together selected songs from the entire 4 night run the Pumpkins did at the Tower. As a music junkie you don’t mess with setlists.
On Tuesday they will be airing Jay-Z’s recent performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City in its entirety. The show was part of Jay’s six city mini-tour in support of his latest LP, American Gangster. I watched his VH1 Storytellers concert special where he discussed and performed his new material. He is definitely one of the chosen ones.
The concert will be available at music.msn.com/jayz on November 20 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
